I think you can see what’s coming…
Take a single glance above, and it is beyond blatantly obvious that the written WORD (especially in the hands oV – DC Comics) has the POWER to cause Radical Change on a Massive Scale. On December 17th, 2010 the self-immolation of Mohammed Bouazizi, in protest against the attempted extortion of local police, which culminated in his public humiliation, destruction of his produce, and confiscation of his equipment, ignited a 28-day Civil Revolt against the 23 year Dictatorship of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, whom was eventually overthrown. Amidst this Revolution, Guy Fawkes masks were utilized by Tunisian Citizens as a Collective Symbol.
Inspired by the Tunisian Revolution and additional public acts of immolation, Asmaa Mahfouz utilized Social Media to bring thousands of Egyptians to Tahir Square on the 25th of January, 2011. Again, Guy Fawkes masks were utilized by the protestors, and on February 11, Hosni Mubarak resigned as President in response to the 846 Egyptian fatalities, with over 6,000 citizens injured.
The masks’ utilization as a Symbol oV – DEFIANCE has continued ever since… and this will likely continue far into the unseeable future. The Guy Fawkes mask has become so famous, it was even parodied by Sam Esmail in his quite brilliant “hacker revolutionary” Television series Mr. Robot, further cementing the MYTHOS.
Now it is important to acknowledge, the masks were not the ones responsible for these Revolutions. It was the individuals themselves who stood up against oppression. The masks (first utilized by Anonymous in their January 2008 protest against the Church of Scientology)* were just a symbol. But they were a symbol many of these individuals drew actual strength and POWER from.
*Anonymous’ Project Chanology launched its “Message to Scientology” on January 21, 2008. The day before Heath Ledger died (see BATMAN by Grant Morrison, Part Two: The Batman of Zur-en-Arrh).
So how does an individual or group draw actual POWER from a Symbol? It’s because a Symbol iZ – the amalgamation oV – the collective associations, ideas, words, and spells that are Magickally charged into ITh – a deep reservoir oV – quantum entanglements with meanings, famous sayings, stories, histories, and most importantly, a Secret Spell. And the reason a Symbol carries true POWER iZ – because oV’ITh‘z secret spell. The more unaware individuals are oV’Th’ATh‘z spell, the more POWER the Symbol carries in the Collective Subconscious Mind.
Now take a moment and just think about how this works. When an individual revolutionary stands open-faced to an armed oppressor, despite their resolve, despite their ideals, despite all the conversations they’d likely had, and the choices they had made to get to there, when they encounter the actual threat to their body, their life, and their well-being, the individual, more often times than not, will cower due to id-entity. Oppressors count on this: “it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.” Psychologically, id-entity exists exactly as a survival mechanism. Therefore, when actual danger threatens any individual, the psyche will automatically retreat to any id-entity available wherein survival iZ – an option.
But when the individual id-entity iZ – masked within a Symbol, even when faced with the exact same danger, the threat has to pass through the Symbol first. The Symbol represents the revolutionary’s ideas. ITh represents their hopes, their dreams, their ideals, their inspiration… just feeling ITh upON their skin, they remember… they “Remember, Remember, the 5th of November, the Gun Powder Treason and Plot. [They] know of no reason, why gunpowder treason, should ever be forgot.” And as soon as these WORDS flow through their mind, their entire world iZ – transformed before their eyes. Now they’re standing in Guy Fawkes’ shoes. They are Guy Fawkes. They remember the Oppression they are facing now iZ – only a continuation oV – all the Oppression come before. Now they’re no longer alone. Now they’re standing with all Revolutionaries who’ve come before them. NOW they’re standing with Martin Luther King Jr., they’re standing with Malcolm X, Che Guevera, the Dalai Llama, and Gandhi. NOW they are these heroes. They remember their Rage Against the Machine. Their lyrics begin to cycle through their heads. The music begins to swell: “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me. Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me. Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me! Fuck you, I won’t do you tell me!!!!!!” And NOW they remember who’s mask they’re wearing!!! And they remember “ideas are bulletproof.”
NOW they’re V him-SELF. NOW they stand howling in rage, body scorched in flames, only to be SEARED against the TEMPEST RAINS! NOW they are HOLY RAGE!!! NOW they are MYTh ITh-SELF. NOW they are LEGEND.
And NOW they look around themselves. They see themselves surrounded by a Multitude oV – Revolutionaries, all wearing the same Mask – an Endless Sea oV – RAGE. NOW they are LEGION. NOW they REMEMBER. They REMEMBER oV’Th’ATh, NOW iZ – the MOMENT. They REMEMBER oV’Th’ATh, this… this MOMENT iZ – the MOMENT that WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING. That this MOMENT iZ – the Culmination oV – their ENTIRE LIFE!!! That TODAY iZ – the DAY they DO NOT BACK DOWN. TODAY iZ – the DAY they feel NO FEAR.
And they fight like Warrior Poets. And take their FREEDOM.
This… iZ – a MAGICKAL TRANSFORMATION. This iZ – the TRUE POWER oV – a MAGICK SYMBOL.

ITh iZ – no secret DC Comics came into conflict with V for Vendetta’s mastermind, Alan Moore, over the production oV – James McTiegue‘s inspirational 2005 film. Moore has claimed he’s never seen it. He even requested his name be removed from the film’s credits and denied payment from its royalties. But it was the film that fanned the fires oV – the ÆNoMYTh, spreading his Magick Symbol (the Guy Fawkes mask first conceived and created by David Lloyd) to the far reaches oV – the Earth, with Moore himself stating: “It feels like a character I created 30 years ago has somehow escaped the realms of fiction.” But that’s because ITh didn’t begin as Fiction. ITh began as an idea… and as we WILL to see ITh, we shall soon discover… ideas are REAL.
And you don’t have to dive very deep to discover the Secret Magick Alan Moore encoded into V. In fact, it is in the very letter oV – his WORD you will discover the cypher key to this Great MYSTERY. You see, v. v. V. v. v. (ie. Vi veri universum vivus vici or “By the Power of Truth, I while living have Conquered the Universe”) iZ – not original to Faust, as the 2005 film claims. Not at all. In fact, ITh was the Magickal Motto oV – a very famous Magician… arguably the most POWERFUL MAGICIAN in the last 500 years. And ITh was HE, Aleister Crowley, who first DECLARED the WORD – yea, e’en the Secret Spell whispered to the Souls oV -ALL who donned V’s mask:
“Do what thou Wilt shall be the Whole of the Law.”
